Have you studied Japanese but still feel nervous about having a casual conversation with a Japanese person?

Do you sometimes know what you want to say, but find it difficult to keep a conversation going?

My lessons are designed to help you use Japanese to express your own ideas, experiences, and interests—not just practice grammar and vocabulary.

And you don’t need to prepare an interesting topic for every lesson.

Because our lessons take place in an art gallery, we use authentic artworks as conversation starters.

What can we talk about?

You don’t need to be interested in art or know anything about it.

I might simply ask:

– What do you see?
– What do you think is happening?
– Why do you think so?

A simple question about an artwork can lead to conversations about your experiences, memories, opinions, and interests.

You might start by talking about a painting and end up talking about your hometown, your family, a trip you took, a movie you watched, or something that matters to you.

In this way, you’re not just practicing Japanese.

You’re using Japanese to express yourself.

Of course, we can also use textbooks and structured learning materials depending on your goals.

Every lesson is tailored to your level, interests, and learning goals.

A safe place to make mistakes

Making mistakes is completely OK.

You can stop and think, try again, use simpler words, or make the same mistake more than once.

I’ll patiently support you and help you find more natural ways to express yourself.

Rather than focusing only on being “perfect” or “native-like,” we’ll focus on:

– expressing your own ideas
– keeping a conversation going
– enjoying real communication
– gradually building confidence in Japanese

The goal is not perfect Japanese.

The goal is being able to say:

“I could do it in Japanese!”

Why I created this kind of lesson

I understand what it feels like to study a language but still struggle with everyday conversation.

I studied English seriously from junior high school through graduate school. I got good test scores and even gave presentations in English at work.

But after those presentations, when people started chatting casually, I struggled.

I couldn’t have the kind of simple, everyday conversations that came naturally to me in Japanese.

That’s when I realized that what I really needed wasn’t more grammar patterns or vocabulary.

I needed practice keeping a conversation going about things I genuinely wanted to talk about.

So I started taking one-on-one English lessons online and studied with more than 50 tutors.

Through that experience, I discovered three things:

– I speak more when I feel safe and supported.
– I remember more when I’m talking about things I genuinely care about.
– The more successfully I express myself, the more confident I become.

That’s the kind of learning environment I want to create for my students.

– You want to have more natural, everyday conversations.
– You want to talk about your own interests in Japanese.
– You enjoy discovering new perspectives through art.
– You want a relaxed place where it’s OK to make mistakes.

You just need to be curious and willing to talk.

You may not be able to say everything perfectly at first.

That’s OK.
